Tibetan Cultural Institute of Arkansas

The Tibetan Cultural Institute of Arkansas is dedicated to helping the Tibetan people preserve their culture within the emerging global village. This is a task that requires both a facility with the technology that supports such a village and the practical hands-on management skills that characterize the most productive relief efforts. We are convinced that the preservation of Tibetan culture is more than an act of historical preservation. The Tibetan voice has proven itself over the millennia to be a vital voice, and one whose counsel and vision should be a major component of our attempts to solve the unique problems that confront us as we enter the 21st century.

Hear Tibet!

Hear Tibet! is dedicated to resolving the conflict between Tibet and China by putting the focus on the Tibetans inside Tibet, who have not, up until now, been able to make their voices heard. In the past the conflict has been a dialog between the Chinese government in Beijing and the Tibetan government-in-exile in Dharamsala, India. It is now time to hear from the Tibetans themselves. A United Nations sponsored referendum inside Tibet will allow the Tibetans to speak out for the first time and tell the world what they want.

Learn About Tibetan Buddhism

THE TIBETAN BUDDHIST TRADITION is especially rich because the teachings of the Buddha were preserved in their entirety and elaborated upon over the centuries by meditators who took the teachings to heart and brought them to full fruition in their own mind streams. The Kagyu, or "practice" lineage, contributed greatly to this tradition through the attainment and teachings of its extraordinary practitioners, including Marpa Lotsawa, the great translator; Jetsun Milarepa, Tibet's greatest yogi; and continuing with the succession of seventeen Gyalwa Karmapas.
