Buddhist Society for Compassionate Wisdom

Buddhist Society for Compassionate Wisdom (BSCW) is a North American Buddhist Order. The Society was founded in the summer of 1967 as the Zen Lotus Society by Venerable Samu Sunim at his flat in Manhattan, New York City. In 1990 the name of the Society was changed from Zen Lotus Society to Buddhist Society for Compassionate Wisdom. The change of name reflected an important development in the movement of the Society. (Locations in Chicago, Ann Arbor, Toronto, and Mexico)

Joyful Land Buddhist Centre

Joyful Land Buddhist Centre is located in Ottawa, Ontario at 879 Somerset St. West. We offer classes, pujas (chanted prayers), retreats and study programs within the Mahayana tradition as taught by the great scholar Je Tsongkapa. Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, a widely respected meditation master and scholar, is the Founder of the New Kadampa Tradition (NKT) and its first Spiritual Director. Joyful Land Centre also hosts a bookshop (open Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 12-2 pm) carrying 19 books by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso which skilfully bridge Buddhism's ancient wisdom with the challenges of modern life. We offer drop-in meditation classes suited to all levels Thursdays 7-8:30pm (Ancient Wisdom for Modern Lives) and Sundays 10-11:30am (Peaceful Mind, Peaceful World).
